Stable time

Ömer’s older brother Hilmi brought me and Selma to the stables today where we had a chance to look and pet the horses. I really miss the smell and being around horses but mostly I miss riding them. It is the most incredible feeling where you feel free and kind of immortal (weird). I always get the best adrenaline rushes while I am on a horse. Hopefully we will get a chance to ride on Tuesday. Fingers crossed!

Cinema time

We just decided to go to the cinema tonight and we will watch Avatar. I have not quiet grasped what it is about but I hope it is a good one. It does not really matter since I just love going to the cinema. I will tell you later on how good or bad it was.

We will go and eat at Pizza Hut as well and I think that it is time to make some room for a nice salad. I have been eating way too much this past week it is time to put the lid on a bit.

Knäck time

knack

At this moment everybody in the house is enjoying mine and Selmas knäck that we made the other day. Super yummy!

Just mix

2 dl Sugar

2 dl light Syrup

2 dl Cream

Boil for 20 minutes in a thick bottomed pot and stir every now and then. Make sure to make the ball test by dripping a bit of the mixture in cold water and if the goo forms a ball then it is ready. By the texture of the ball you can determine how soft or hard the knäck will be when the mixture has stiffen in the forms. For a harder knäck boil 30 minutes. When the cooking time is over just pour in 1 dl of chopped almonds and start pouring the mixture in the small knäck forms. Voila!

We will bake Daim and toffee on our next baking session, which will be for New Years which is kind of like ‘Christmas’ here in Turkey.

Bride Wars

Last night me and Selma (Ömer’s cousin) decided to have a long missed movie night. You who know me know that I totally love watching movies whatever subject it is. We took our lazy bums to D&R and picked the cheesiest movie, judging by the title and cover. Bride Wars! But it was incredibly entertaining. So girls go out and get it, you will not be disappointed.

Oh I forgot an important detail. We stuffed our faces with Pringles sour cream and onion and chilli crisps from Ruffles. Yumm!

My Christmas presents!

I totally forgot to write a post about my really untraditional but wonderful Christmas of year 2009 in Ankara and the presents I got. In Ömer’s family the are really thoughtful and caring and they all went out of their way to make me feel included in this. I had no expectations and I was actually more looking forward to be the spectator yesterday. Ömer’s Swedish cousin Selma obviously looked forward to the presents more than anyone and her eyes were as big as snowballs when she saw the amount of presents she got.

Ömer got a really nice Guess watch from his mother, which I might steal at some occasions (sorry boo), a Gucci perfume and loads more.

It is similar to this watch but not the exact same

I must say that I have the most wonderful boyfriend who really listens to me. I have said that I really want a brown Longchamp bag and I have postponed the purchase for about a year and a half. But Santa thought that I had been nice this year so he gave me one! Or Ömer did =)

longchamp

My gorgeous new chocolate brown Longchamp bag, perfect for shopping!

I also got a pair of Massimo Dutti flat suede shoes from Selma, Ayse and Hilmi. They were highly appreciated and I have already worn them out on town while partying! Super comfy! To match with all the above items I got the nicest shirt from Inci Teyze, which was purchased at Zara. Blue and white check shirt! I am turning very Ralph Lauren on you all now. I also got a Fashion Now 2 book, which I will indulge in when Ömer leaves to go to Germany and leaves me all bored again. These were some of them. As you all probably can understand I had the best Christmas and now I am just counting down until New Years. Bring 2010 on please!

Ankara end of 2009 pictures

Just thought I would upload some pictures of my days of fun here in Ankara. We have been really busy bee socializing, as I have probably told before and that has led to the lack of posts and uploads of pictures. Well it does not help that my camera sucks and has a battery life of like 5 minutes. Someone give me a new camera please! =)

The first set of pictures will be the ones from our spontaneous night out with Levent, Derya, Mete, Ömer and Me on Monday night. We were just going to go for a beer at November with the lads but ended up with tons of shots of vodka. We had a few additions to the group in the form of Beril, Ayris and Aslı but they stuck to water, which might have been a smart choice for the rest of us as well.

I would probably say that Levent got more drunk than all of us and was quiet entertaining but Ömer was definitely the attraction creating flying carpets and making a human lamp out of Baris. Go Monday nights go!

Merry Christmas!

Sorry guys for the lack of posts recently but it has been quiet hectic for a few days with all the preparations. The Christmas tree looks really nice and the pile of gifts is getting bigger and bigger for every minute.

I need to go out and do some last minute shopping and then I am all done.

So to you all from me have a Merry Christmas and may all your wishes and dreams come true!

I would like to send out some extra Christmas spirit to my family in Sweden. I know that they will have the most wonderful evening with a house full of decorations, smell of nice Christmas food and the most Christmas spirited people. I wish could be with you!

10.11.1977 – 20.12.2009

I really loved this girl. Send prayers out!

I need coffee

Just came back from another one of Ömer’s games and to my disappointment they lost 12-2. The guys were really tired after 2 games and hard training and you could really tell that they were struggling during the game. But still, I am proud of the guys!

I am going eating now, super hungry!

Love M

I am Hungover, give me food!

Last night started off good with Ömer’s team winning the game with 18-5 if I am not mistaken. Quickly went back home, ate yummy chicken wok, got ready fast as lightening and then woop out on the street again. Yunus and Kaan came and picked us up to my luck since I was wearing my heels. We went to a place called Flat where we met up with Baris, Baran, Derya and some other of their friends. I really liked flat with their nice interior design and most importantly the crowd was good. After one beer and one and a half Long Island (sharing is caring =) we took off to Friends&Trends but with an addition of 2, Nazlı and Ayse. Once again I got lucky because Bahar came to Flat to see us for a few minutes and she came by car so she said she could drop us off. Thank you honey!

Friends&Trends in my opinion was a typical Turkish club, with ‘that’ type of people and ‘that’ type of music. You know, stereotypes and stereotyped music but hey I can not say that I did not have fun. We bought our really expensive Gin Tonics and when I paid the second round with my card I made sure to tell Ömer ‘Drink it like it is gold’. 25 lira for a shitty, tiny little Gin Tonic AND on top of that  I have the worst headache.

We went out of the club quiet early and to our horrific surprise, being oblivious to what is happening in the real world, the outside was a big KAOS! People arguing, workers running around, jackets missing and cars missing. Apparently the police had pulled away the guests cars since the people in charge of the car parking had parked many of the cars on prohibited plots. Standard scene on a night out in Turkey. Police VS Clubbers!

Jumped in a cab with the crowd and then Ömer started to moan about a special type of rice. To my luck we went straight home and I boom fell into bed like I had not slept in days, which is kind of true. Anyone know any good tricks of falling asleep and staying asleep throughout the night? Maybe it is time to visit the doctors, yawn!

Brainstorm, brainstorm it never ends!

I have had a few days of constant design project brainstorming. It is really endless and at this moment I have a whole bunch of them and they are adding up to the number 10! I want to share 2 of them with you guys and they are in the form of DIY projects, which are both fun, creative and cheap (sometimes not!).

#1

Buy a bunch of really cheap plastic flowers (obviously pick the nicest ones) and spray paint them gold. Decorate your favourite outfit, shoes or just use them as decoration in your home.

And

guldspray

I will upload pictures of the result later!

#2 I Never thought of this but someone else certainly did! Take a pair of black tights and get loads of sequins, small metal studs, pearls and start sewing and gluing. You will definitely be the girl with the most original tights of the night!

Inspiration from Doo.ri

Another style I want to recommend is the leggings with knee decoration. Simply buy a pair of leggings and start decorating the knee part with round metal pieces and sequins. Make sure to buy the suitable glue for the fabric of your leggings!

Bazaar day with Bahar

Today I woke up really early to go to the bazaar that Bahar promised to take me to. I as usual did not sleep well during the night and felt really tired! It was a really good bazaar and I managed to get myself a strange painting, underwear and some presents for the girls in the house. Hope they will like what Santa’s bringing them =)

When I got back to Ömer’s house to my luck I managed to catch the afternoon tea time, which is always yummy! They had family friends over and it was nice to listen to their various stories. Makes me realize how much I miss my family in Sweden.

Ömer will be leaving soon to go to his second game this week and today they are playing against another Istanbul team. I will meet him at the pool later though since he needs to go warm up in before hand. If I am not mistaken we will probably make Ankara night unsafe tonight again so I will keep you guys posted on where and make sure to upload loads of funny photos.

Post you later lovers!

Project #3

So while doing some style advice research I came across a few things I would like to try and make. I will try and modify the items as much as I can so they will be more ‘Melis’ and original. I have a lot of fabric at home laying around waiting to be worked, so I need to get going on the designing ASAP!

styleadvice3

I already have the light fabric at home and I have been a mess trying to figure out what to make of it and see when you wait for something good… All I need to buy is the black fabric and get going on figuring out the skirt part.

The skirts below are easy and all I need to find is the fitting fabric to go with the different styles

skirt1 Feather light!

Apparently seen in Grazia (my favourite UK mag), gorgeous skirt!

Thank god I live in the land of textiles! Can not wait until Nazlı brings me to Bursa textile shop in Ankara. Love you honey!

Wish me luck!

What to wear on New Years Eve?

This is dedicated to you my dear wonderful friend Melis Inci. If it is OK with you I will give some style advice both to you and whoever wants to benefit from it *mwah*.

When we women get ready for a special occasion I think it is really important to plan ahead what you should wear. I at least give myself a month to 2 weeks to plan my outfit because I am incredibly picky. This year I think individuality is the most important accessory you could bring to the table but to help on the way I would like to give a few examples of what could be worn on a special occasion like New Years.

A nice simple one shouldered black dress with a ruffle, cute clutch bag preferably tiny and hand held, black tights, gorgeous black heels and off course a wicked hairstyle in the shape of a bun on the top of your head or ballerina style. Also add a little cute hair band or head band. It is all up to you!

Another style you could go for could be the boyfriend blazer, simple top and a high waist skirt in any form, shape and colour and a pair of platform heels. Just to give you an example of how the outfit could look see the picture below. I would add a pair of tights though to not catch a cold. Style your hair in angel locks and voila you are the subject of conversation during the evening!

styleadvice1

Sweet lovers as you all know it is never wrong to go for the black body con either and remember it does not matter what size, height or shape your are. Body con loves all bodies (as I do too, go hour glass)!

bodycon1

PS. Try and find a black dress without the shoulder details though. Go all black and spice it up with a nice belt!

The ideas might not be the most original but this is what I could imagine myself wearing so hope you guys like it.

Kamilkoc sefer no 551777

How technological have the buses become? Last time I went on the bus (2 weeks ago) I got a un comfy seat and snoring men around me. This time we decided to go with Kamilkoc and to my big surprise (even though I had heard about it) there are screens behind every seat. There was a variety of films, music and games to pick between and believe you me no time to get bored or even sleep and without even noticing the bus arrives to it’s destination! Amazingly comfortable! Me and Ömer obvıously got ahead of ourselves and our head stopped functioning when we had to pick a movie. One 2 many GOD DAMN IT! In the end we picked Jessica Alba's The Eye but moved on to a Chevy Chase movie, which some of you might know always is really messy but funny.

Anyways here are some pictures of our surprised but happy faces.

And then we arrived home at around 06.00 in the morning and got greeted by the cutest Christmas tree at Ömer’s mothers house. The house is quiet empty at this moment but it will get over filled when the siblings, Wilfo, Johan, Ayse and Selma the little Swedish cousin will arrive. Photos will off course be uploaded at a later date of the new state of the house =).

I forgot to say…

thanks Naz for your good morning SMS. It made me smile the whole day. Basically it has been a good day today. I managed to finish off the zipper of my dress and then have a coffee with Cem. We obviously sat at Starbucks but a different one this time. The one with all the high schoolers, O M G =).

Me and Cem decided to take a stroll down on the street to the shops to look for various things I could not find yesterday and right by the exit I ran into my dad’s cousins wife Özlem who was there to pick her daughter Ela up. I have not seen them for ages and Ela had grown up to this 17 year old beauty. We exchanged numbers and as soon as they move back to Fenerbahce we will be able to see each other more, which is cool since I like them. When we lived in Istanbul/Bodrum during the 80’s Özlem used to babysit me while my parents were out having fun.

I have some really nice memories from the time while we used to live here but I must say Istanbul have changed a lot and I can say in some parts to the bad. Oh well let’s all hope for a way to the better although some chronicle writers say that Turkey are taking big small steps forward and huge steps backwards. I don’t know what you guys think and I am not sure what I think either so I will leave it at that.

I need to get some cooking done for Ömer, I will be serving Swedish meatballs from IKEA, brown cream sauce and taze potatoes (fresh potatoes) straight from MMMIGROS =) and then it is off to Kamil bro for our trip to Ankara.

Last preparations

Today when I woke up, with a headache as usual, I to my great content saw that it was not a rainy day. Wonderful I thought and took the chance to call my Swedish friend Malin to ask her if she wanted to take a stroll down to the shops. We met up and walked all the way to ‘town’ and I think we nearly entered all the shoe shops available. The last shop we went into to my surprise have the type of boots that I have been wanting for a long time. Suede, wedge boot, gorgeous and not so pricey! Maybe I’ll go and buy them tomorrow since I could not make my mind up if i really want THAT exact pair or if I can find better. I will upload a photo of the boots and then please people comment if they are worth it or not!

Since me and Malin are both from Sweden we kind of miss the Swedish tradition of Christmas decorations as we have in Sweden all along the streets. Our moods quickly got better when we saw that most places on Bagdat Street actually have made the effort to increase the spirit of Christmas. Thanks guys! Malin is lucky tough she is flying off to Dalarna in Sweden to celebrate Christmas with her family. With glimpse in her eyes she told me about all the things she will do and all the things that she wants to eat that she have missed while being here. I can not blame her Christmas is something special in Sweden!

This is a sample picture of NK’s Christmas decorations

By the way Malin also reminded me to look up Whitney Ports (from  MTV’s The City) new fashion line Whitney Eve (if I am not mistaken). It took me quiet a while to actually find this website but here you go guys, indulge in her simple but yet contemporary fashion line.

I feel like I deserve!

Last night was a blast! So as some of you know I was invited to Nazire Dedeman’s surprise birthday bash at Coppa. Her daughter’s had really gone out of their way to plan and organize a really successful evening with everything from crabs, caviar, lamb and as dessert a  yummy chocolate cake with champagne to swallow it down. As i said it was all very well planned and people were really happy specially Nazire.

So this was when we all were decent and sober. Due to the really awesome free bar me and Ceyhun took the opportunity to ask for drinks we would normally NOT be able to afford, or not willing to buy due to the high price. We started off good but ended up having Long Island Ice Tea’s and Jager bombs. To be honest I do not even want to think of it and I did wake up feeling like I deserve.

To top the evening off I got to spend my night in the biggest ever guest room I have ever seen. It was quiet funny to wake up and due to the effect from the huge amount of alcohol intake not realizing were I was since the room was so dark. I panicked and tried to find my phone, which I could not, and then desperately trying to find the light switch, which I also could not find and then in the go to find my jacket I got lost in the huge house and ended up at the bottom floor in the gym. I just could not stop laughing at myself and my state! In the end I managed to find my jacket, switch the lights on and to my great relief find my phone on the night table next to the bed. All I could think of was what I would tell Bahar if I had lost the phone, phew luckily I did not have to go through that part!

I will try and upload some photos later but at this moment I can not say that they are the greatest. I do not know what I was trying to focus the lens at while taking the photos. It is like how they say to not ever put make up on when you are already drunk, you will have no idea how you look. Kind of like my disastrous photos.

Last night….

It rained so much and my hair got totally ruined. Not that my hair is ever the most gorgeous and wonderful, but still!

I convinced Cem to come with me to Taksim, in the rain, to meet up with Bahar to then go and sit somewhere and chat endlessly. My feet were wet, I was freezing and my hair totally got stuck to my little head. Great!

Even though all of the above mentioned negativity I managed to have the greatest time. Bahar invited a friend of hers, Fleur who in turn invited her friend Gözde and in the end we were just a bunch of internationals chattering and enjoying. We sat at Cafe Pi near Taksim Square first, which is normally a great  place but maybe when you are in Asmali Mescit, where the intellectual level is a bit higher (can not believe I am saying this). This place would not stop playing the loudest heavy metal tunes leaving us over voicing and we could not bare it and in the end left to go to Bi Bucuk, WHICH by the way is a great place. Never been but will definitely continue going there. Thanks Fleur and Gözde! We then went to Ugly with Ceyhun and his friend and after their drinks and my Irish coffee Ceyhun showed us his gorgeous flat and then me and Cem returned home. It is always fun to listen to Ceyhun’s endless adventures!

I also had a great chat with Fleur about my endless dreams of properly learn how to sew. She gave me the advice to go around the small tailor shops and ask if the can teach me some. I had that idea but being Swedish I kind of put that idea to the side quiet quick since that is practically impossible there. I know guys, I am my own hindrance! So let’s see what I will manage to put together. First of all I just need to get a job and I am still waiting for a reply from the last place I went to for an interview. Not only did I have problems in Sweden getting a job due to my little experience within the field but now I am experiencing culture and language barriers. I apparently have my Turkish as an disadvantage now (they think I might find it difficult to cope in the office, which I think is totally not true!). Great!

Before expanding this post much longer I just want to say that I am going to a party tonight and it’s going to be something different! I just wish I had something better to wear.

A trip for mankind…or not.

So finally I can write a normal post. Yesterday I started off quiet good by running off to the gym. I managed to go through all the cardio that my ‘trainer’ has recommended for me and then proudly went down to the weights level. I must admit I am not the best on the weights machines since I rather spent my time outdoors doing sports than indoors in a gym. Anyhow, this man that works there really had his eyes on me and would not stop telling me what I was doing wrong, which is fine, since I need to do them right in order to not injure myself or not even work the right muscles. But he was so incredibly rude. Stand up, sit down, do this, do that in the bluntest way. Well annoying! Pweh got that out of my system now.

After my gym session I went into the steam room and got ready to meet up with Malin and go to Kadıköy. Oh and I bought a pair of rather cool tights (which is not my style but hey I just had to give it a go) voila!
